Discover why Occidental was named one of America’s 10 most beautiful college campuses as you learn about the communal and intellectual campus life of today’s students. Tour led by an Office of Admission student tour guide. This tour will take you to all parts of campus. Comfortable shoes and a refillable water bottle are recommended.

 

Student for a Day – The Importance of Oxy Plants

Join Professor Gretchen North for a walking tour of Oxy's plants. Beginning with the iconic oaks on the Quad, we'll visit trees and other plants on campus and discuss their significance, not only to the Occidental community, but also to the local community and beyond.

Student for a Day – Life Below the Surface

Moore Lab of Zoology 151, Anderson Center for the Environmental Sciences

Explore the vast diversity and unity of marine animals, from sponges to sharks with professors Shana Goffredi and Dan Pondella. This laboratory setting will guide participants through the evolution of body form and function of animals that live in the largest habitat on Earth.

OXY ARTS – The Iridescence of Knowing Open House

Visit OXY ARTS for a walkthrough of our fall 2023 exhibition, The Iridescence of Knowing, which explores the rich lineage of Indigenous cultural production in Tovaangar, known today as the greater Los Angeles basin. The exhibition brings together a collection of works from diverse artists from multiple generations and varied First Peoples communities of Southern California. The works challenge conventional boundaries between "craft" and "fine art”, uplifting intergenerational transmission of culture, the significance of lineage, and the profound connections between cultural tradition and contemporary artistic practices. You're invited to tour the exhibition with OXY ARTS staff and learn more about our ongoing exhibitions and community based work at the gallery.

Student for a Day – The Federal Reserve, Inflation, and Monetary Policy

Join Economics Associate Professor Andrew Jalil for a fascinating lecture on the federal reserve, inflation, and monetary policy. What accounts for the recent policy decisions of the federal Reserve? What are the likely effects of these policy actions? This session describes the research methods economists use to study monetary policy, with a focus on the economic outlook today.

Student for a Day – AI and Pedagogy: How AI Tools are Impacting Teaching at Oxy

Join an esteemed panel of faculty and staff members as they share their current thinking about artificial intelligence tools and approaches to using and avoiding them, both generally in higher education and specifically at Oxy. Panelists include Carmel Levitan, professor of Cognitive Science and director of the Center for Teaching Excellence; Julie Prebel, associate professor of American Studies and director of Writing Center & Programs; Carolyn Brighouse, associate dean for student academic affairs and professor of Cognitive Science and Philosophy; Kathleen Makarewicz, science librarian; and Eli Chartkoff, academic technology librarian.

Join Media Arts & Culture Professor Broderick Fox as he interviews an esteemed panel of alumni, Sam Bergen '04, Caitrin Rogers ’04, and Meko Winbush ’03, who have led successful careers in the entertainment industry.
